THE MODEL
The 1986 Ferrari 412 represents the final evolution of Ferrari's 2+2 grand touring line that began with the 365 GT4 2+2. Powered by a 4.9-liter V12 engine, the 412 produced 340 horsepower, offering a blend of performance and refinement suitable for long-distance cruising.
This model was particularly special when equipped with the 5-speed manual transmission, as it provided an engaging driving experience that appealed to purists. The manual gearbox complemented the front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, allowing drivers to fully harness the V12's power while enjoying its sonorous soundtrack.
The Pininfarina-designed exterior, characterized by its sharp, angular lines and subtle elegance, exuded a timeless sophistication. Inside, the 412 featured a well-appointed cabin with luxurious touches, including leather upholstery and power amenities, making it both a performance machine and a comfortable GT. Despite being overshadowed by more exotic Ferraris, the 412 5-speed manual remains a rare and coveted classic for enthusiasts seeking understated Italian style and V12 performance.
THE CAR
The car was originally purchased by a long-time Ferrari collector direct from the factory, it was one of only 576 examples produced. It has the rare 5-speed manual gearbox. It was featured in a Forza magazine article in 2001 (included in the sale).
The current owner purchased the car in 2015. It has been regularly serived by San Rafael European, a noted Marin county based independent Ferrari specialist shop. The last service included 4x new Michelin TRX tires, annual fluid service and replacement of coolant hoses. The front suspension was rebuilt with new shocks in 2024.
This car starts on a dime and runs well. It very well may be one of the nices 412 manuals still in existence today.
