THE MODEL

For the 1976 model year, Harley Davidson released a limited run of bikes called the Liberty Edition, celebrating the Bicentennial.  Purportedly each model was limited to a run of 1976.  Special graphics over a deep black metallic flake were added to the standard models.  The FX featured a 1200cc 74ci 45 degree V-Twin with a 4-speed transmission.

THIS BIKE

This is a one-owner bike, an early Liberty build, it was produced in 11/75.  Originally purchased at Dudley Perkins Harley Davidson in San Francisco.  The owner, a well known Ferrari chief concours judge is better known in the motorcycle circles as the President of a motorcycle club and the long running writer of "Takin' it to the Streets" column in Thunder Press.

This bike was purchased as an FX with kick start, the owner would later have Dudley Perkins Harley Davidson add electric start to the bike, but also kept the kick start option.  Recognizing that all the unique graphics would not age well on a bike being ridden regularly, the owner removed all the Liberty Edition body work to preserve them in 'as new' condition.  He added a custom painted tank and rear fender which the bike still wears today.

The bike's original parts as well as any other pieces that were added over the years are all included with the bike.  It had just over 24,000 miles on the odometer when the instrument cluster was removed when a new, narrower handle bar set was added.  Customizations include:

  • Thunder Header exhaust

  • La Pera single, dual and original seats

  • Progressive rear shocks as well as the original

  • Narrower bars, sportster w/riser and a pull back

It comes with every original part from the day the bike left Dudley Perkins Harley Davidson as well as the original invoice and service receipts.  Both owners and the harder to find shop manuals accompany this very well cared for bike, it's an amazing time capsule.
